{1} [Former list description] Cottage. Early C18. Coursed limestone rubble, C20 purlins and corrugated asbestos roof, brick end stacks, that to right large and with old coupled square chimneys. 2-unit plan. 2-storey, 2-window range. Central C20 door in C20 gabled stone porch, flanked by 3-light C20 casement windows. 2-light C20 casements to first floor, all with timber lintels. C20 brick single-storey extension to left. Interior has chamfered spine beams and open fireplace with ogee stop-chamfered cambered bressumer and bread oven.
{3} Cottage. Early C18.
MATERIALS: Coursed limestone rubble, with a corrugated asbestos roof.
PLAN: 2-unit plan.
EXTERIOR: A 2-storey, 2-window range with a central C20 door in a C20 gabled stone porch, flanked by 3-light C20 casement windows. There are 2-light C20 casements to the first floor, and timber lintels to the ground floor windows on the rear elevation. The roof has C20 purlins and brick end stacks; that to the right is large and with old coupled square chimneys. There is a C20 brick single-storey extension to the left.
INTERIOR: Features of interest include chamfered spine beams and an open fireplace with an ogee stop-chamfered cambered bressumer and a bread oven.
HISTORY: 8 Lumber Lane, also known as Briary Cottage, was built in the early C18. In 1919 it was the home of George Leonard Edwards, a bus operator who pioneered the bus service from Paulerspury to Northampton. A photograph of Mr Edwards outside his home in 1919 shows the cottage with a thatched roof. Alterations were carried out to the cottage in 1977, and a brick extension was built.

REASONS FOR DESIGNATION DECISION:
8 Lumber Lane is designated at Grade II, for the following principal reason:
* It is an early C18 cottage with a significant degree of survival of original fabric, including stone walls, fireplace with bressumer and bread oven, chamfered spine beams and joists on two levels, internal partitioning and oak flooring.
