{3} In September 2012 a historic building record of a ground floor staircase and section of party wall between Nos. 41 and 43 was carried out prior to the submission of a listed building consent application for their removal.
The site comprises 2 units of a terrace of seven 3 storey town houses with shops at the ground floor. Constructed in 1864 by the trustees of the St. Thomas Hospital Charity the terrace replaced a row of eight tenements gifted in the 1680 will of Richard Massingberd (Mayor of Northampton in 1667). The earliest detailed map of the site is the OS town plan of 1885 which shows the terrace as 7 separate units. According to Kelly's directory of 1869, and well into the 20th century, No. 41 was a stationers. No.43 was listed in Kelly's of 1890 and 1894 as a 'Fancy Repository' and from 1920-1940 as a hardware dealer and plumber. It is shown on the 1956 Goad plan as a dealer in 'Rubber Goods' which may indicate the same occupier. The present jewellers shop was established in 1993.
The fabric recorded was the staircase leading from the ground to the first floor of No. 43 and the remaining section of ground floor party wall between Nos. 41 and 43. Description and photos.
