Summary
Site of a shoe factory built circa 1857 on the south side of Campbell Square. It was a three-storeyed building in Italianate style, with lights at street-level for half-cellars. It had a tower of approximately two-storeys. Demolished after fire.

Full Description
{1} Manfield building; report about meeting of Northampton shoemakers protesting against the use of machinery for making shoes;previously a domestic hand-made task in their homes.
{2} Manfield building; references to a strike in opposition to the use closing machines in the factory.
{3} Manfield Building; originally occupied by Moses P. Manfield, but since 1938 by Charles Tait & Co. Ltd (Leather factory). It was constructed in the latter part of 1850's. When completed enclosed area of land by Newland, Lady's Lane, Victoria Street and Campbell Square; building three storeys high, Italianate in style; architect unknown; original symmetry of façade - four bays on either side of main entrance; due to extension west of five bays in 1880's the symmetry of the façade no longer existed; back of building a tower once prominent feature of Northampton skyline; built of brick with façade and tower coated with stucco; ground floor to resemble masonry; key stone over main entrance had a bearded face.
{4} Manfield Building; c.1857; Campbell Square; three storey brick building with "lights" at street level for half-cellars; Italianate in style; tower approximately two storeys high at the back; façade and tower coated in stucco (on façade, first storey is lined to resemble masonry; further five bays erected on westside c.1885; originally having four bays on either side of the main entrance; was in use in 1966, but now demolished.
{8} 1857. A substantial three-storey building in red brick, cement rendered. Modified classical style, arcaded with rusticated ground floor. Nine bays plus five to the west facing Campbell Square. Wide segmentally arched 1st floor windows between piers. Venetian central opening. Close set round arched windows above. Entablature, balustrade. Belvedere towers with low roofs and corner finials. Boarding doors to centre of west wing. Mansfield's Warehouse and Victoria Street Warehouse form a group.
