Building record 4851/0/6 - No. 4 High Street (Rose Cottage)

Former tollhouse erected by the Towcester & Cotton End Turnpike Trust in the 19th century.

{1} Earlier C19. Squared rubble, Welsh slated roof. 2 storeys, 3 casement windows with octagonal glazing bars in flush chamfered surrounds; ground floor canted bay window on right, hood mould on left and over central door. Lower back wing.

{3} Former tollhouse relocated from original site on the UC road (was A43), in parish of COLLINGTREE (NORTHAMPTON District). Toll Cottage (was Rose Cottage), No. 4, High Street on West side of road. A two-storeys building of dressed stone with a slate roof, in a design referred to as rectangular. Erected by the Towcester & Cotton End Turnpike Trust in the 19th century. Now domestic property, with some additions or alteration to the original tollhouse structure.
