Full Description
{1} House. Early C17 extend later C17, C19 and C20. Squared coursed limestone and lias, part banded. Collyweston slate roof. Originally 2-unit plan, now T-shape. 2 storeys. Elevation to Main Street has gable end abutting road to right. One-window range, to left, has C19 casement, under wood lintel, to ground floor. Return wall of cross-wing has similar one-window range to ground and first floors. 6-panel door, to left, under stone lintel. Former lean-to attached to right of gable end is now raised in brick and with a flat roof. Blocked 2-light stone mullion cellar window and single-light window with moulded stone surround. Ashlar gable parapets and stone stack at ridge. C19 and C20 single-storey extensions to right. Interior not inspected but noted as having an open fireplace with stop-chamfered bressumer, with pyramid stops.
{3} Broughton House, two storeys, coursed rubble and sandstone, is now L-shaped. Parapeted gables have roll finials. It consists of a two-cell house, possibly of class 3b plan, of early 17th-century date which was extended to N. by an unheated one-room wing later in the century; the fireplace has a mantel beam with pyramid stops. The gable wall of the later wing is in banded masonry. A lean-to, added in the late 17th-century fills the W. angle between the extension and the main range; it has a cellar with a blocked ovolo-moulded window and on the ground floor a single-light window with cyma and ovolo-moulded frame.
