Full Description

{1} Gatepiers, gates attached screen and lodge house. Probably early C20 by Sir Reginald Blomfield. Squared coursed limestone and limestone ashlar with wrought iron gates. Lodge house has Collyweston slate roof. 2 pairs of gatepiers, inner and outer piers are linked by wall with square-head pedestrian gateway. Horizontally channelled ashlar with arch-head niches to inner piers. Piers are surmounted by large urns with swags and torchere finials. Inner piers have standing figures attached to urns. Inn r piers formerly linked by gates are now linked by ashlar screen with balusters. Wrought-iron gateways to pedestrian openings. Single-storey lodge house, attached to right, probably of 2-unit plan, has main front facing former driveway, with central gablet and recessed porch with columns. Formerly the main entrance to Apethorpe Hall (q.v.), modified mid C20
