Summary

A congregational chapel that was built c.1842 that was partially remodelled during the late 19th century situated on the southern side of West Street. The building is constructed of squared coursed limestone with an ashlar facade and a shallow gabled Welsh slate roof. The gable fronting the street has a large pediment with a moulded cornice above three square headed windows with rustic surrounds. The entrance is located in the centre of the ground floor and is in a rusticated surround with a pediment and banded columns. Flanking the entrance are two square headed windows with arched glazing bars. Each side has two, tall windows with arched glazing bars. A single story school room is attached to the rear of the building.

Full Description

{1} Congregational church. C.1842 partially remodelled late C19. Squared coursed limestone with ashlar façade. Welsh slate roof. Single-unit church with school room attached to rear. Gable end, to rear, is a 3-window range at upper level. Central fielded panelled double doors have rusticated surround with frieze and pediment over. Flanking windows and upper windows are late C19 in original openings. Arched glazing bars with Art Nouveau coloured glass. Square heads with rusticated surrounds. Rusticated quoins at corners. Pediment over with moulded cornice. Shallow gabled roof. Side elevations have tall windows with similar glazing as main front, stone lintels with keyblocks. Single-storey school room attached to rear. Interior: small panelled vestibule with 6 panelled doors. Plain panelled pulpit with flight of steps and stick balustrade. Plain panelled pews.
