Full Description

{1} House. C17, C18 and C19. Squared coursed limestone with Collyweston slate roof. Originally probably one unit plan now T-shape. Single storey with attic and 2 storeys. Elevation to Main Street is a 4-window range, at ground floor, of C19 casements under wood lintels. Large casement window in gable to far right. C19 casement, under wood lintel, in apex of gable. 2 hipped eaves dormers, to centre, have similar casements. 4-panelled, part-glazed door, under wood lintel, to right of centre. Brick stacks at ridge and end and ashlar end stack to apex of gable has remains of moulded cornice. C19 brick extension to rear. Corner fireplace in hall and remains of open fireplace in room to left. Cellar has partly vaulted stone roof.

{3} Post Office, single storey and attics, originated in the 17th or early 18th century at the W. end of the site. It was extended to the E. in the 18th century and again in the 19th century when a single-storey non-domestic range was added on the E. and a two-storey domestic wing in stretcher bond brickwork on the S. Also in the 19th century the S. part of the original range was rebuilt as a separate two-room tenement. An ashlar stack of at least 18th-century date on the N. gable of this original range serves a first-floor corner fireplace. The E. range is 18th century; the W. room was sub-divided in the early 19th century to give an entrance lobby and a small room with counter, perhaps a former bar.
