Summary

A house that was built circa 1838 is located at the junction of Park Street and Bridge Street. The building is constructed of squared coursed limestone with a hipped Collyweston slate roof with ashlar ridge chimney stacks. The south facing Bridge Street front has a three window range of sashes under stone lintels and keystones with a central door. The Park Street facade has a two window range of sash windows with a doorway to the left.

Full Description

{1} House. Probably c.1838. Squared coursed limestone with Collyweston slate roof. Double depth. 2 storeys. Main front is a 3-window range. Central, 6-panel, door has rectangular fanlight with intersecting glazing bars and a moulded wood surround with pediment over. Sash windows, with glazing bars, under stone lintels with keyblocks and having ashlar dressings. The first floor windows reduce in height. Hipped roof with stone stacks at ridge. Elevation to left is a similar 2-window range with one horizontal sliding sash to ground floor left and a blocked door alongside. Interior not inspected but noted as having early C19 fittings. Advertised in Stamford Mercury c.1838 as a new house. (RCHM: An Inventory of Architectural Monuments in North Northamptonshire: p96)

{3} Presumably the 'new built house….fit for a genteel family' advertised for sale in 1838. A shop in the north-west room has a separate doorway.
