Summary
This site includes a house and shop/post office that is located on the western side of Church Street. The building is constructed of coursed limestone and Ironstone with a double pitch Collyweston slate roof with ashlar and stone ridge and gable chimney stacks. The street facade is divided into three bays, the bay to the left is the shop and has a central door flanked by timber shop windows with a two light casement window above. The central bays have a two window range of three light casements to each floor with a central door and a raised stone band between each floor. The range to the right has a door to the left and two three light stone mullion windows to each floor. The house has a 1677 datestone and was extended in 1680. The building was then converted to house and shop with a post office in the early 19th century.

Full Description
{1} House, now house and shop. Datestone H/RM/1677 for Robert Henson under lease from Browne's hospital of Stamford. Datestone ISM/1680 refers to extension for John Shirley; shop is early C19. Squared coursed limestone and ironstone with Collyweston slate roof. Originally 2-unit plan extended to 3 units in 1680. 2 storeys. 3-window range with 3-light stone mullion windows to far right. The ground floor mullions are ovolo-moulded and the first floor one chamfered. Other windows are C19 casements, und r wood lintels. 2-light window, to right, was originally a door. C20 six-panel door to left of centre is under wood lintel. Raised band between floors. Straight joint at junction of main range with right bay. Central ashlar stack has pulvinated frieze. Ashlar stack to right end and stone stack at left end. One-bay 2-storey extension, attached to left is now a shop. C19 casement window to first floor. Interior not inspected but noted as having an open fireplace.

The building is constructed of coursed limestone and Ironstone with a Collyweston slate roof and stone and ashlar chimney stacks. The house has a 1677 datestone and was extended in 1680. The building was then converted to house and shop with a post office in the early 19th century. The datestones are incised H/RM/1677 and ISM/1680. The building is Listed at Grade II.
