Full Description

{1} Farmhouse. Early C19 for Brudenell family of Deene Hall. Squared coursed limestone with Colleyweston slate roof. 2 unit plan, with internal, stacks and pantry and stair to rear. 2 storeys. 3-window range of, 2-light, stone mullion windows, with hood moulds. Central C19 plank door, also with hood mould. Hipped roof with overhanging eaves and 2 stone stacks at ridge. Side elevations have one-window ranges of 2-light stone mullion windows. Rear elevation has small extension at right angles. Interior not inspected. In 1847 the house was occupied by Thomas Barratt, who had a brick kiln to the west; the house was formerly known as Brick Kiln Lodge. {3} Brick Kiln Lodge of two storeys, hipped roof, with one-storey wing, was built in the early 19th century. Stacks are internal; the two main rooms have a pantry and stair behind. Openings are ovolo-moulded with returned labels. In 1847 the house was occupied by Thomas Barratt, farmer and brickmaker who in 1851 employed ten men (Kelly 1847; Census). The brick kiln and clay pit are to the W. where the Willow Brook cuts through the Lower Estuarine clays.
