Full Description

{1} Gates and gatepiers. Garden probably laid out in about 1676 for James Tryon. Gatepiers are probably late C17 and gates early C18. Pair of limestone ashlar gatepiers with ball finials are linked by pair of wrought-iron gates, with overthrow, decorated with leaves and scrolls. Tryon crest and initials are incorporated into the overthrow. The gates and gatepiers are on an axis with the entrance gates to Bulwick Hall and attached entrance loggia and garden room (q.v.) and kitchen garden walls and attached gates and gatepiers attached to south-west of the Orangery and to the north-east of Gardener's Cottage (q.v.).
