Full Description
House. Datestone 'John Archer 1769", extended and altered early and mid C19. Squared coursed limestone with ashlar dressings and Collyweston slate roof. Originally 3-unit plan now irregular L-shape. 2 storeys with attic. Main front is a 3-window range with Gothick style gabled porch breaking forward to centre. Central outer archway with segmental arch-head and chamfered surrounds. Similar inner doorway, with part-glazed door, and arch-head side lights. Flanking French doors with chamfered stone urrounds and Gothick glazing bars. Unhorned sash windows, with glazing bars, to first floor, have chamfered stone surrounds with keyblocks. Ashlar gable parapets, with finial, to porch, and ashlar stacks at ends. Datestone on quoin to north-west corner. Elevation to left of main front has a 2-window range of C19 sash windows with ashlar surrounds, to right gable end. Early C19 three-window range, to centre and left, has mid C19 tripartite sash windows under gauged stone heads. Gable elevation to right of main front is similar to left gable. Mid C19 gable is attached to right and mid C19 single-storey extension attached to far right. Rear elevation has one casement window, in gable end, under wood lintel. Interior: entrance hall has early C19 staircase with stick balustrade, rising around an open well. Some 6-panel doors. Dining room to left of entrance has Gothick style marble fireplace, reset from drawing room, to right. Ground and first floor rooms to left and right of entrance all have chamfered spine beams.
