Summary

Braddan House was probably built in the late 17th and 18th century and was formerly known as the Old Dower House. The house is situated on the eastern side of the High Street to the north of its junction with Green Lane. The building is constructed of squared coursed limestone with a double pitch Collyweston slate roof with ashlar parapets and chimney stacks at the gable ends. It is two stories high with an attic range lit by a pair of hipped dormer windows with two light casements. The street facade has two, four light ovolo mounded stone mullion windows flanking an entrance door with a timber trellis porch with a two light stone mullion window above the door and two, three light stone mullion windows to the left and right. An outbuilding to the right of the house has a gable projecting slightly forward towards the street and has a single three light casement window under a wooden lintel.

Full Description

{1} House. Probably late C17 and C18. Squared coursed limestone with Collyweston slate roof. Originally probably 2 unit now L-shape plan, 2 storeys with attic. Main front is a 3-window range of flanking, 3-light, ovolo-moulded stone mullion windows and similar central 2-light window; all with leaded-lights. Central, 6 panel, part-glazed, door with lattice porch. Pair of hipped eaves dormers, with C20 leaded casements. Brick stacks at ends. Single storey outbuilding attached to right, with gable end ab tting road, now forms part of house. Leaded casement under wood lintel. Range to rear has lower eaves, part is now C20 garage. Interior not inspected.
