Full Description

{1} Dovecote. Probably late C17 or early C18. Regular coursed limestone with Collyweston slate roof. Circular plan. Conical roof with circular glover. C19, single-light, leaded-casement and small plank door under wood lintel. Interior retains nesting boxes. Probably converted to summer house C19.

{4} Dovecote at Rectory;

{5}Probably constructed as a garden feature within rectory grounds & may have been designed to house ornamental doves; construction was sometime between 1728 & 1863; puts likely date as after 1812 when the rectory was under reign of Rev. John Thomas Tryon; may be that dovecote was built by rector about 1820 as a folly to show ancient rectorial right to have a dovecote on his land; survey lists a number of repairs needed to dovecote; dovecote probably has distinction of being one of last to be constructed in county but this can not be proved; as a monument it should come within classification of garden features rather than dovecotes as its function appears to have been decorative rather than functional...;
