Summary

A house built in 1648 and altered during the late 17th to early 18th century and again during the mid 19th century is situated on the western side of Hautboy Lane. The building is L plan in shape and is constructed of regular coursed limestone and ashlar with double pitch thatch and Collyweston slate roofs. It is single story with an attic range lit by two eyebrow dormers to the front and rear and a three light casement window on the left gable. The road facing facade has a four window range with two, two light stone mullion windows to the left and two casements to the right and a central fire window. From the 18th to the mid 20th century the building was used as a public house and known as the Hautboy and Fiddle.

Full Description

House. Dated. M/1648/I, extended C18 and C19. Regular coursed limestone with thatch and Colleyweston slate roofs. Originally 2-unit plan, now L-shape. Main front is a 4-window range with two 2-light stone mullion windows, to left, and 2 C19 casements under wood lintels to right. Central fire window. Central eyebrow dormer has C19 casement window. Ashlar gable parapets and brick stacks at ridge and end. 2 bays, to right, probably added early/mid C18. Right gable has C20 casement windows. Left gab e has projecting chimney breast and C19 style casements. Rear elevation is similar with C19 style casement windows and eyebrow dormer. C20 porch at rear, C19 extension to rear has Colleyweston slate roofs. Interior: centre room has open fireplace with bressumer, room to left of main front has date inscribed on spine beam.
