Full Description

{1} Walls, gatepiers, gates and attached orangery. Probably all early C18 for the Duchess of Norfolk and Sir John Germain, partly restored C19. Squared coursed limestone walls, ashlar gatepiers, wrought-iron gates and brick orangery with Colleyweston slate roof. Pair of wrought-iron gates to north-east of north wall have rusticated ashlar gatepiers with attached columns and moulded cornices. Gates with leaf decoration and scroll panelled standards, probably restored C19. Square-head gateway in west all has flanking decorated pilasters. Iron railings attached to south end of west wall, are mounted on retaining wall. Orangery attached to south end of east wall was originally single-unit plan, single-storey 4-window range. Central arch head doorway with rusticated surround. Tall casement windows with glazing bars and moulded stone architraves. Ashlar parapet and gabled roof with ashlar gable parapets. Interior: part now converted to C20 changing rooms. Original roof trusses. Wall attached to south of orangery has attached rusticated ashlar gatepier. Walls enclose 3 sides of north and north east gardens of Drayton House (q.v.). (Gardens included in HBMCE Register of Parks and Gardens at Grade I.)
