Building record 1842/0/23 - Nos.38, 40 & 42 High Street

{1} House, now house and 2 shops. C18 remodelled early C19. Limestone, now stuccoed, with slate roof. Originally probably 3-unit plan. 2 storeys. 4-window range of irregularly spaced unhorned sash windows with glazing bars and with plain stucco surrounds. 3-panel door with glazed toplight to right of centre has similar surround. Late C19/early C20 shop front to right has canted sides and central part-glazed door. C20 shop front to left. Brick and stone stacks at ends have remains of raised bands. In erior has some spine beams. Included for group value.

{2} Former 18th century house became in the 19th/20 centuries 2 shops and a house. Late 19th/early 20th century shop front survives to the right and 20th century shop front to the left. 18th century house remodelled in the 19th century. Originally probably a 3 unit plan. 2 storeys. 4-winow range. Late 19th/early 20th century shop front to right and 20th century shop front to left.
