Full Description

{1} Lock house. C1815 with later alterations. Possibly designed by Benjamin Bevan in a variant form of 'Old Grand Union' style housing. Painted brick with hipped slate roof with ridge stack. Outshut to rear. 2 storeys. 3 bays. Off-centre doorway with C20 door and open porch with pitched roof, loargeboard and finial. On either side, a single 4-light casement window with cambered arch. Above, a pair of slightly smaller small-pane 2-light casement windows with cambered arches. Cottage bears an important relationship to Watford Locks (qv) with which it has group value.
