Summary

Village cross. The style suggests that it is probably early 14th century. It consists of three steps and an octagonal shaft topped by a capitol. The head is missing but a sketch shows it to have been a lantern cross. Scheduled and listed.

Full Description

{1, 4} S.W. of Great Brington Church, just outside the churchyard gate, stands the Village Cross. There are three, octagonal, stone steps, an octagonal shaft and a small, decorated capital. Above this is a small, broken, octagonal column which was surmounted by a second capital, now (1901) destroyed.

{2} Cross at SP66686517. Probably C15th. GP A0/62/35/1 (from the south-west).

{3} Village cross standing west of Great Brington Church, outside the churchyard gate. Three octagonal stone steps with an octagonal shaft and a small, decorated capital. Above this is a small, broken octagonal column which was formerly surmounted by a second capital, now destroyed.

{5} Cross, probably C16th. Limestone and lias with ashlar dressings. Octagonal with three steps. Plain octagonal shaft on a square base. Capital damaged. Also scheduled as an Ancient Monument.
