Full Description

{1} House. C16, partly rebuilt C17 with C20 additions. Coursed squared limestone with ironstone dressings, slate roof, stone end stacks. 2 and 3 storeys. Irregular plan. Main front of C15 range to garden has 4-light stone arch-mullion window to ground floor right flanked by offset buttresses, a similar 2-light window to ground floor left, similar 2-light window to first floor left, a similar 3-light window to first floor right, and 3-light leaded casement window to second floor with timber lintel. String courses at first and second floor levels, ironstone quoins and stone-coped gable with kneelers to right. Similar fenestration to rear but with one-light windows with moulded stone surrounds to ground floor rear right angle. C17 range to left of 2 storeys and attic is obscured by single and 2-storey C20 additions. Left gable end to street has ironstone bands, quoins and a stone-coped gable with kneelers. Entrance in C20 wing facing street. Interior has chamfered spine beams, one with bar stops, some stop-chamfered joists, stone fireplaces with moulded stone jambs and lintels and open fireplace with chamfered bressumer. Some displaced C17 panelling and 2 fitted cupboards with shaped shelves. Collar truss roof. (Buildings of England: Northants, p.448).
