Full Description
{1} House, now house and shop. C16 with C18 and early C19 additions and alterations. Coursed squared limestone with decayed ironstone dressings, thatch roof, brick end and ridge stacks, the large central ridge stack with stone base. 3-unit plan. 3-storey, 5-window range. Door to left of centre with chamfered stone jambs and moulded 4-centred arched head, string course above inflected down to form hood mould over door. Window to left has double-chamfered stone surround and single central chamfered mullion. C19 large pane sash window with timber lintel to far left. Central C19 3-light shop window with C19 part-glazed door to right in moulded wood surround occupying half of a window with double-chamfered stone surround, formerly mullioned, right half blocked with brick. A blocked window to far right with double-chamfered stone surround at a higher level than others, the string course above inflected upwards to form hood mould. 3-light double-chamfered stone mullion windows to first floor. String course at second floor level. Second floor blank to street but formerly lit by row of blocked 2-light stone mullion windows to rear. Stone-coped gables with kneelers. Rendered and whitewashed 2-storey, 1-window mid/late C18 addition to right (No. 10) formerly part of the same property, and has C20 shop window and C20 door to right in tiled projecting bay, one 2-light C20 window to first floor, brick dentil cornice, half-hipped pantile roof with brick stack against gable of No. 8. 2-storey gabled range to rear much altered C20. Interior: The Old Bakehouse has 4-centred arched stone fireplaces to ground, first and second floors and an open fireplace with chamfered bressumer.
