Full Description
{1} Row of cottages. C18. Coursed squared ironstone, thatch roof, brick ridge and end stacks. 2-storey, 6-window range. No. 31 refronted in brick, whitewashed and has C19 part glazed door to right with gabled bargeboarded, hood on brackets, a 2-light casement window to left, and 6-pane sash window to far left with cornice hood extending to left over blocked door; two 2-light leaded casements to first floor. Nos. 33, 35 and 37 have similar doors with timber lintels, a small 4-pane window to left of door of No. 33, 9-pane sash windows with brick jambs and bar-stop-chamfered lintels either side of door to No. 35, a blocked door to right, 6-pane sash window to left of door of No. 37, a 12-pane sash to right. Nos. 33-37 have 2 and 3-light casement windows to first floor in eyebrow dormers. Quoins to right gable end and brick gable. No. 33 has bar-stop-chamfered spine beam and collar truss roof.
{3} The northern unit roof has been raised above the others and replaced with tile and the remainder is roofed with tin sheets. Local residents have related that the buildings retain thatch beneath the tin sheets. The end gable, though rendered, shows the steeper pitch of the earlier roof and a characteristic small window opens to the loft. As is common in the village the former eaves line is level with the middle of the windows and would have formed eyebrow dormers.
