Full Description
{1} Cottage. C17. Ironstone rubble, brick and cob. Whitewashed, with brick end and ridge stacks. 3-unit plan. 2-storey, 2-window range. Plank door with overlight and straight hood on brackets to right of centre, a cross window right, small square window to far right and 2-light casements to left either side a door with hood on brackets; windows and doors have timber lintels. Central raised first floor section in eyebrow dormer has 2-light sliding casement to left, a C20 window to right. Interior has chamfered spine beams, and old plank door with HL hinges. Part of building was formerly used as a meeting house. Cottage and meeting house were vested in trustees in 1678. The latter use ceased before 1817 and trust dissolved mid C19. Various members of the Adams family were trustees mid C18 and are believed to be related to U.S. President John Quincey Adams.
