Full Description

{1} House. Dated 1776, remodelled C19. Ironstone ashlar, plain tile roof; end stacks, brick to left, stone to right. 2-unit plan. 2 storeys and attic; 3-window range. 5-panel central door with overlight, panelled reveals and porch on thin columns. C19 large pane sashes throughout with cemented lintels and keyblocks. Storey band, moulded stone eaves and stone coped gables with kneelers. Datestone in left gable end inscribed W/DA/MDCCLXXVI. Wing to rear formerly detached, then joined to main block with brick 2-storey link and roof raised C19. This wing has datestone over garden door inscribed IP/1696 with 2-light ogee stone mullion window to right with hood mould. Interior. Cellar said to have served as village lock-up. Initials on datestone believed to be those of David and Ann Wilding, Keepers of the Poor. Included for group value.
