Full Description

{1} House, formerly the village school. C.1812 by James Wyatt for the Dowager Lady Knightley. Coursed squared ironstone, slate roofs, stone internal stacks. T-plan. Two-storey, one-window centre flanked by symmetrical 2-window wings of one-storey and attic. Gothick panelled door in chamfered stone surround with 4-centred head within one storey porch with chamfered doorway with 4-centred head and hood mould. First floor window above has 2-light leaded window with pointed head. Y-tracery, transom and label stops flanked by blank shields. Plain stone coped parapet with string course below. Wings have stone mullion and transom windows with diamond pane leaded lights and hood moulds, and stone coped gables with kneelers. C20 rear extension. Interior has a bread oven.
