{1} House. Early C19, probably incorporating early C18 work. Coursed limestone rubble, cornice rebuilt in ironstone, slate roof, flanking brick stacks. 2 storeys and attic; 3 bays. Central doorway has frame with wooden pilasters and fluted capitals, open pediment on scroll brackets and C20 door. Sash window with rendered lintel to left: C19 French window with wood lintel to right. Sash windows with rendered lintels on the first floor. Extension to left C20. Brick, front faced with ironstone. Slate roof. One storey; one bay. Sash windows with plain stone surrounds. Interior: room to right of entrance has reused C18 panelling and overmantel. The ceiling here is lower than elsewhere and suggests this part of the house is earlier. Robert Stephenson, the engineer, is said to have stayed here when superivising work on the Kilsby Tunnel in 1833-8. Included for group value.
