Full Description

{1} Tunnel entrance. Early C19. James Barnes engineer. Blue and red brick, with stone coping. Arch framed by flat buttresses. Flanking brick walls curve forward slightly ending with similar buttresses. Blocked opening with flat arched brick frame in centre of parapet. Brick string course at base of parapet. The tunnel was opened in 1814 and is 1528 yards long. (A.H. Faulkner, The Grand Junction Canal, 1972, p.188).

{3} Opened in 1814. 1397m long, brick lined, without towpath or ventilation shafts.
