Full Description
{1} House. Datestone WN/1858/XI. Squared coursed limestone with ashlar dressings and Colleyweston slate roof. Double depth plan. 2 storeys with attic. Entrance front of 3-window range of C19 casements, with similar centre window; all under gauged stone heads with keyblocks. Central gabled porch has arch-head opening with panelled door. Pair of gables with arch-head attic windows have semi circular merlon with ball finial between. Probably reset from Kirby Hall (q.v.). Ashlar gable parapets and kneelers and stone stacks rising from central valley. Datestone in porch. Garden front to left is similar of 3-window range with central blank arch at ground floor with rusticated pilasters and spandrels and moulded cornice over. Arms of Earls of Winchelsea in upper part of arch. This feature and the merlon on the entrance front were probably reset from Kirby Hall. C20 extension to left. Former stables and coach house are attached to extreme right of front. Interior has some 6-panelled doors and panelled window reveals. Built as agents house for Kirby Hall estate.
