Full Description

{1} Includes No. 2A, Meeting Lane. School house and chapel, now house and studio. Mid C18 and early C19. Squared coursed limestone with ashlar façade and concrete tile roof. 3-unit plan. 2 storeys with attic. 4-window range of cross casements with glazing bars under stone lintels with keyblocks. C19 plank door to centre, with fanlight, and C20 door to far left both under stone lintels with keyblocks. Central C20 roof dormer. Ashlar gable parapets and kneelers and ashlar stacks with moulded cornices at ridge and ends. Gable to left, abutting road, is similar. Rear has 2 stone mullion windows. Former chapel, probably early C19, abutts right gable and is 2-window range of tall casements under wood lintels. Gable to right has plain arch-head window opening and elevation to rear, abutting Meeting Lane, has similar window. C20 door to right. Interior of house not inspected but noted as having panelled window reveals. Interior of chapel retains gallery, remodelled C20.

{4} Small chapel of rubble with a hipped slate roof, probably dating from the mid 18th century when an 'endowed Sabbath evening lecture was commenced'; soon after 1834 the walls were heightened, a gallery inserted and the interior refitted. A hall was built 50 yards to the south c1930 with the intention of erecting a new chapel alongside, but the project was abandoned; the former meeting-house is now used by Jehovah's Witnesses. The W front has a blocked entrance near the S end with gallery window over and a doorway and larger window to the left. There is a blocked round-arched window at the N end. The interior has no old features.
