Full Description

Beehouse. Probably C18. Limestone ashlar. 2 tiers of 6 round-headed alcoves for bee-skeps, with keyblocks. Plinth, pilastered corners and narrow pilaster strips between bays, plain frieze and moulded cornice. One of a pair in entrance arm of Kitchen Garden (q.v.). Symmetrically sited either side of path leading from main entrance. (Castle Ashby parks and grdens are included in HBMC Register of Parks and Gardens for Northamptonshire at Grade I)

{4} Rectangular building, 6x14x5ft. Door at back for access to shelves at 3 and 27 inches from ground; at front: 2 rows of 6+6 arched openings, each 24x18 inches with wooden shutter; this bee house and another were probably in or near kitchen garden; pre-1973: lead stolen from roof; by 1989: parts collapsing, possible repair planned.
