Full Description

{1} Railings, gate and gatepiers. Gate attributed to Thomas Warren. Probably mid C18. Wrought-iron railings dividing Italian Garden from main avenue leading to Castle Ashby (q.v.). Spear finials to railing and urn finials to standards. Plain limestone ashlar gatepiers with urn finials on stepped bases. Wrought-iron gate and railings with ornamental crestings and urn finials to standards. (Castle Ashby park and gardens are included in HBMC Register of Parks and Gardens for Northamptonshire at Grade I)

{3} To the west of the Italian Garden is a lawn with trees edged with mid C18 railings with gate (all listed grade II), while along its east side is a shrubbery with trees. A path runs along the east side of the shrubbery, just inside the ha-ha, from which there are views east, across the park and Park Pond. At the south-east corner of the shrubbery the path turns east, downhill, and enters the Arboretum which runs down to the bridge at the south end of Park Pond.
