Full Description

{1} House. Early C17, altered C20. Coursed squared limestone, plain-tile roofs, stone end and ridge stacks with brick flues. 2 storeys and attic; 3-window range. Three-unit plan. Studded door to right of centre with chamfered Tudor-arched surround. 3-light chamfered stone mullion windows to ground floor with hood moulds. 3-light casement windows to 1st floor with wood lintels. Tall gabled dormer window to right of centre with 3-light casement window, with wood lintel and hood mould. Quoins and ironstone-coped gables with kneelers. Interior has stop-chamfered spine beams, 2 open fireplaces with chamfered bressumers and collar truss roof.

{3} Analysis, plan and photographs. There is a fire plaque for the Sun insurance company associated with the building. The date of 1782 has been carved into one of purlins. May be graffiti or may be a refurbishment date. It was the village bakery in the 19th century, local information has indicated that the bakery ovens, now removed, were situated in the western cormer of the north-west room. In more recent times the building has been used as a factory for a greetings card business.
