Full Description
{1} Cottage. Late C17/early C18, with C20 alterations. Coursed limestone rubble, thatch roof, brick ridge stack. One storey and attic; 4-window range. 2-unit plan. Blocked door to left of centre replaced by 2-light casement window, with wood lintel. Small one-light window to ground floor far left, 3-light casement to ground floor centre and 2-light casement to ground floor far right, all with wood lintels. Central dormer window. Present entrance to rear. Single-storey weather-boarded outbuilding to left with hipped thatch roof. Interior noted as having chamfered spine beams.
[3} Analysis, plan & photograph. The stone building approached through the north door provides a hall with cooking range, a parlour and servide rooms at the lower end. Nineteenth century and later refurbishments obscure the evidence for an early building. However, the general proportions of the building suggest a 17th century date. The spine beam in the parlour supports a 17th century date but is off-set and may be re-used or displaced. The original use of the barn is not determined. Its relationship with the central service room may be significant but there is insufficient evidence to interpret it with any certainty.
