Full Description

{1} House. Early/mid C17 with C19 alterations. Coursed limestone rubble, thatch roof, stone end and ridge stacks with early brick flues, probably original, that to right end set diagonally. 2 storeys and attic; 3-window range. Three-unit through-passage plan. C20 door to left of centre with wood lintel, a 3-light casement window to ground floor left, 2-light casements to ground floor centre and right, 3-light casements to 1st floor centre and right and 2-light casement to 1st floor left, all with wood lintels. Central roof dormer. Semi-circular bread oven projection to right side. Interior has ogee-stop-chamfered spine beams, open fireplace with ogee-stop-chamfered bressumer. Collar truss roof with ogee wind braces to purlins.

{3} Analysis, plan and photographs. No internal examination possible. Externally, all the windows are surmounted by wooden lintels. On the front elevation the three lintels at eaves level and the one to the left of the door are all moulded. The mouldings show various degrees of wear and exposure, but single and double ovolo decorations are represented. There are also indications that the mullions to the casements may be ovolo moulded. This detailing may indicate a possible pre 1600 date.
