Full Description

{1} House. Dated 1837, perhaps with earlier origins. Coursed rubblestone with stone dressings and quoins. Buff plain-tile roof with stone and brick ridge and end stacks. 4-unit plan with stair to rear. 2 storeys and attic; 4-window range of unhorned tripartite sashes some in reeded cases: 2/2:6/6:2/2, with 8/8 sash over door to centre right. Similar tripartite sashes on ground floor with part-glazed door set in moulded round-arched doorcase with iron ogee-headed trellis porch. On right end facing High Street a 6/6 sash with casement and boarded window above. To rear fenestration includes a 10/6 round-arched sash. From left end projects a small court of outbuildings lower than house including wash-house with open fireplace and coppers and coach house with loft over.From right end a tall brick wall enclosing garden extends along High Street with short return by drive. Garden entrance up 2 steps with 6-panel door under brick segmental arch. INTERIOR. Stick baluster staircase and panelled doors with moulded surrounds. Some simply moulded contemporary fireplaces with cast-iron hob grates. On a chimney breast in attic the date 1837 in large numerals. Roof rafters renewed C20 though ties and some other elements original.
