Full Description

{1} On the confirmation of the church at Newbottle in the 12th century, it was covenanted that mass should be celebrated in the chapel of Purston. No further mention occurs of the chapel and the site has "not even been preserved by tradition" but probably refers to Great Purston (info: G. Foard)

{3} Miss Monteith, daughter of the owner of Great Purston Manor, who is interested in the history of this area has searched for the Chapel but has been unable to find any further information about it or any likely site.
