Summary

[Formerly The Slater; formerly The Cavalier]. A late 17th century house with 19th century alterations and house additions are located on the eastern side of Stamford Road opposite its junction with the High Street. The buildings are constructed of coursed limestone rubble and ashlar with double pitch Collyweston slate roofs with gable and ridge chimney stacks. The houses are now a public house. The buildings that make up the public house can be divided into three builds. The south eastern part was the first house and is single story with an attic range lit by a pair of gabled roof dormer windows. A central door has a gabled entrance porch that has a canted bay window to the left and a small two light casement on the right. The house attached to the north west was added in 1856 and has a higher roof line but shares an ashlar stack. It is also single story with an attic lit by two gabled eaves dormer windows. The entrance front faces to the south east and has a canted bay window to the left, with a doorway on the right that is flanked by two sash windows. The gable faces on to Stamford road and has a two window range of sash windows. A row of houses was added to the north with their entrance facades facing Stamford Road. The three houses are symmetrical with each having a pair of casement windows to each floor. A door is situated on the right.

{1} Shown on 1841 Enclosure Map;

{2} The Cavalier, formerly the Slaters' Arms Inn, one storey and attics, class 4a with bay windows, 17th-century. Extended in 1856 by a two-room addition, the date being recorded on the gabled dormer windows with the initials' WCM' for William Close, slater (Burghley Estate Office, Court Book, 1851).

The houses are now a public house after a conversion during the 1970s. The buildings that make up the public house can be divided into three builds.
