Summary
Romano British pottery kiln found in 1874 in a pasture field. Inside were twenty broken urns. A brooch of silver, bronze and bone was also found in a gravel pit at the south east end of the field about 1/4 mile south-east of Wappenham Church.

{1} Field name: Home Field
{2} Rough Romano-British kiln with twenty broken urns in it and charcoal, iron slag (?); also a brooch of silver, bronze and bone; found in a gravel pit in the south-east end of the Home Field about 1/4 mile south-east of Wappenham Church, by H C Malden in 1874. (A gravel-pit is marked in this position on OS 6" at SP 626 453).
{3} Gravel working in 1874 revealed a Roman kiln containing 20 broken urns. Charcoal, bone, iron slag, a silvered brooch and fragments of bronze were also found.
{4} Features recorded in 1874 during gravel quarrying, in the north west section of the pit. A section drawing shows c.10 possible kilns. Plan.
{5} The old gravel pit is in a permanent pasture field and no recent finds have been recorded.
