Full Description

{1} The Coach House barns at Glendon Hall were built between 1862 and 1884 for the Booth family who had owned the hall since the early eighteenth century.
Their form relates directly to their function and comprises rooms large enough to accommodate coaches with wide doorways with sliding doors to allow easy access for the vehicles. Their proximity to the stables is standard and common-sense location. Two rooms added to the north of the first phase may have been used by the grooms as accommodation with an adjoining repair room. The water cistern beneath the floor most probably is contemporary and served to supply water for cleaning.
The well constructed nature of the buildings reflects the status of the property. The decorative nature of the west end of the building, with rusticated stonework, date stone and coat of arms reflects the fact that this end of the building faces the main south-front gardens of the hall.
Though structurally little altered, apart from the raising of the roof of Room 5, there are no fixtures or fittings that now indicate its former use.
