Full Description

{1} Trial trench excavation identified the bottom course of a wall was revealed in Trench 1. This was constructed of dressed oolite blocks placed directly onto the natural and measured 0.5m across. In order to determine whether this represented the outer wall of a house the trench was extended for a further 8 metres. No return wall was located and thus it was assumed that this feature represented a property boundary. This would seem to be confirmed by the appearance of such a boundary at this location, on the first edition of the OS map. It would appear that this boundary went out of use in the late nineteenth century.
