Full Description

{1} No evidence of medieval or earlier activity was noted during the recording action at Tower Bungalow and the only archaeological feature discovered consisted of a ditch, dug no earlier than the later seventeenth century. The line of this ditch matches up very closely with a field boundary recorded c1725 and the line of this boundary seems to have survived until the later 20th century. The ditch seems to have been infilled and covered with a cultivation soil in the earlier part of the twentieth century so it may be that the boundary lived on only as a fence or hedge.
The development site therefore appears to have straddled two small fields from the later seventeenth century until its recent incorporation into the garden of Tower Bungalow. The complete absense of any earlier artefacts and features may also indicate the site lay outside the bounds of the medieval village, within agricultural land.
