Full Description
{1} A NE to SW alignment of roughly dressed sub angular limestone pieces measuring 0.15m to 0.4m long was located within the cable trench. This limestone was in a deep sided cut and represents the footing of a stone wall. Butting against the southern side of this wall was a 50mm thick deposit of white mortar forming an inconsistent layer. The layer represented a degraded floor surface, this mortar sealing an indurated layer of horizontally bedded sandstone flagstone floor. Sealing this layer was a layer of clay containing burnt clay ash and charcoal measuring 100mm thick. The layer also contained window glass and early 20th century pottery. Dressed limestone masonry alignments were uncovered but not investigated.
