Full Description

{1} During the excavation of foundations for an extension at 8 Knight's Lane some dressed stone walls were found. They were made out of dressed stone about 0.90m wide. Three separate adjoining walls were observed, forming a horseshoe shape. All the walls extended beyond the excavated area. A floor was also observed c. 1.5m below the existing garden level; this was paved with ironstone slabs. Immediately above this paving there was a layer of black charred material with rubble fill up to another charred layer above it.
