Monument record 9181/0/1 - Middle Iron Age Enclosures

{1} An area of small enclosures with roundhouse plots and other internal features ranged along either side of a broad ditched thoroughfare aligned east to west. The enclosures were sub-circular and sub-rectangular in shape and within some of them were smaller ditches and pits. There were also smaller features outside the enclosures.

{2} An east-west aligned series of three probable co-joining enclosures were located to the north of a probable east-west aligned droveway. The western most enclosure was investigated at its western boundary in Trench 1. Two large intercutting ditches were found, one of which was re-cut indicating that there were at least two phases of activity on this side of the enclosure. Trench 6 was positioned to investigate the eastern end of the enclosure and the droveway. The enclosure was again of more than one phase. Ceramic material recovered from these enclosures was all of mid Iron Age date.
