Full Description
{1} Feature 4 consisted of a 4m wide band of tumbled pieces of limestone (mostly 10-15cm) with occasional pebbles, pieces of sandy red earthenware rooftile and fragments of land drain. This deposit was about 10cm thick and was pressed into undisturbed Northampton Sand. At its southern end this stone spread was only about 1m wide and appeared to have been robbed away by a modern disturbance leaving a pronounced hollow visible in the existing ground level. The rough stone trackway is in all probability associated with the eighteenth and nineteenth century buildings mapped immediately north of the Development Site. It is possible that eighteenth century structures survive beneath the undisturbed modern part of the development site, as indicated by the 1726 estate map.
