Full Description

{1} A number of laid limestone slabs were found during the exacavation of a pond. These slabs were deposited within the fill of a cut feature of unknown form, since only one edge was visible within the excavated area. It is suggested that the limestone formed part of an external surface, possibly deposited to deliberately consolidate the compacted & sunken fill of an earlier pit or linear feature. There is no conclusive proof for the date of this surface, although Roman pottery was recovered from the fill of the underlying cut feature.
