Full Description

{1}Another important aspect of the development of Wollaston was the setting up of the Co-operative society Wollaston Industrial and Provident Society Ltd in 1876. Initially there was only a grocery department but this expanded rapidly with a bakehouse added in 1883, a butcher’s shop in 1886, a coal business in 1887, milk supply in 1917, a furnishing and hardware store, and also the sale of confectionery in 1922. Branch shops had also been opened in Bozeat (1914) and Grendon (1918). Land was purchased and homes were built in Hinwick Road in 1884 and in Holyoake Road in 1900. After the 1920s the number of shops began to dwindle , this was partially as a result from the competition posed by the Co-op.
