Full Description
{1}New streets were not built until after 1800 with the first new street Thrift Street known as New Street being laid out in 1883.
Another important aspect of the development of Wollaston was the setting up of the Co-operative society Wollaston Industrial and Provident Society Ltd in 1876. Initially there was only a grocery department but this expanded rapidly with a bakehouse added in 1883, a butcher’s shop in 1886, a coal business in 1887
Thrift Street housed the bake house, butchers shop and slaughter house and the coal yard, but no specific evidence of this phase of use was identified through the field visit.
