Full Description

{1} In Northampton the practise was for closing (the manufacture of uppers) to be done by separate closing firms, often operating a few machines in a small building behind a row of houses, often in an extra storey built over the external wash houses. There is a building of this type adjoining, and partly built into, the house at the south-east corner of Abington Place. This 'factory' is of three storey with exterior doors on the third and second storeys on the south side. Many of the windows have been altered but those on the upper storey are still large wooden-framed with 15 rectangular lights in each side.
